• During the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy Review National Conference held yesterday at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, key figures including Ethiopia's National Bank Governor, His Excellency Mamo Mihretu, Ethio telecom CEO, Ms. Frehiwot Tamru, Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, Eng. Worku Gachena, Director General of Information Network Security Administration, Mrs. Tigist Hamid, and Dr. Zelalem Assefa, CEO of ICT and Digital Education at the Ministry of Education held a panel discussion.

    The panel delved into various aspects of Ethiopia's digital transformation journey, with our CEO, Ms. Frehiwot Tamru emphasizing how digital infrastructures like telecom, electric power, data centers, and digital ID systems are the foundational infrastructures in realizing the vision of a digital Ethiopia. She highlighted the encouraging progress made in deploying these infrastructures thus far but stressed the need to leverage them to build the digital economy. Ms. Tamru also underscored the role of Digital-ID platforms and policy reforms that brought forth the digital payment systems in creating an enabling environment for the success.

    Ms. Frehiwot Tamru, who was quote saying “Building Digital Ethiopia is a journey and some tangible results have been observed along the way” described the ongoing efforts to expand power supply and improve telecom accessibility as promising steps towards digital Ethiopia. She also emphasized the need for continued collaboration among stakeholders in these infrastructure developments while ensuring inclusivity.

    The panelists also elaborated the impact of mobile money services on Ethiopia's financial sector, the importance of focusing on artificial intelligence to drive socio-economic development, the ongoing initiatives to enhance cybersecurity measures and integrate digital education into the national curriculum as part of building a secure and progressive digital ecosystem.

    The conference featured fireside chats with His Excellency Prime Minister Abiy and a panel discussion involving sector leaders discussing the progress, accomplishments, and challenges throughout the Digital Ethiopia 2025 journey.

    During the dialogue, the Prime Minister highlighted the country's advancements in building a digital Ethiopia, emphasizing achievements in infrastructure development, internet accessibility, and digital finance. He reiterated the government's dedication to cultivating a conducive environment for innovation and urged the private sector to capitalize on the opportunities arising from the evolving digital landscape.
